Electron Beam Characterization of REBCO-Coated Conductors at Cryogenic Conditions

چکیده

Particle accelerators with superconducting magnets operating at cryogenic temperatures use a beam screen (BS) liner that extracts heat generated by the circulating bunched charge particle before it can reach magnets. The BS surface, commonly made of high–conductivity copper, provides low impedance for stability reasons, secondary electron yield (SEY) to mitigate electron–cloud (EC) effect, and electron–stimulated desorption (ESD) limit dynamic pressure rise due EC. Rare–earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) high–temperature superconductors (HTSs) recently reached technical maturity, are produced as coated conductor tapes (REBCO–CCs), will be considered application in future colliders decrease enable operation around 50 K, consequently relaxing requirements. Aside from HTS properties, industry–grade REBCO–CCs also need qualification EC vacuum compatibility under accelerator–like conditions. Hence, we report SEY ESD measured 12 K low–energy irradiation 0–1.4 keV. We verify sample compositions morphologies using XPS, SEM, EDS methods. energy dose dependencies comparable those technical–grade metals one SEYMAX = 1.2 after conditioning.

Scientific Report Transverse Thermal Conductivity of REBCO Coated Conductors

REBCO coated conductors (CCs) have the potential to widen considerably the application areas of superconductivity. Quench protection of REBCO-based devices represents one of the major obstacles to this expansion. Thermal conductivity data are mandatory ingredients for quench simulation studies. In particular, the transverse thermal conductivity (kT) of the CC plays a key role in case of quenche...

Field and temperature scaling of the critical current density in commercial REBCO coated conductors

Scaling relations describing the electromagnetic behaviour of coated conductors (CCs) greatly simplify the design of REBCO-based devices. The performance of REBCO CCs is strongly influenced by fabrication route, conductor architecture and materials, and these parameters vary from one manufacturer to the others. In the present work we have examined the critical surface for the current density, J...

An equation for the quench propagation velocity valid for high field magnet use of REBCO coated conductors

Based on a study of the thermophysical properties, we derived a practical formula for the normal zone propagation velocity appropriate for REBa2Cu3O7-x coated conductors in high magnetic fields. An analytical expression to evaluate the current sharing temperature as a function of the operating conditions is also proposed. The presented study has allowed us to account for experimental results no...

Characterization of a cryogenic beam source for atoms and molecules.

We present a combined experimental and theoretical study of beam formation from a cryogenic buffer gas cell. Atoms and molecules are loaded into the cell by laser ablation of a target, and are cooled and swept out of the cell by a flow of cold helium. We study the thermalization and flow dynamics inside the cell and measure how the speed, temperature, divergence and extraction efficiency of the...

AC losses in coated conductors

Future use of coated conductors in electric power applications like transmission cables, transformers or fault current limiters is sensitive to the amount of dissipation in the AC regime. This paper analyses factors controlling AC loss of coated conductors in typical configurations: the self-field case when transport current generates the magnetic field, and the case of AC applied field where t...
